Sugar, Spice & Getting in Fights: stunt workshop for women/NB people

Sugar Spice and getting in fights

Fancy being the next Michelle Yeoh? Limber up for our interactive stunt workshops led by an experienced stunt performer, KA-POW!

Ever wondered how filmmakers make their fights just so realistic? Or how stunt people manage to get up time and time again after taking brutal looking falls?

Then this is the workshop for you.

Film and stage combat is fun. It is a non competitive, incredibly safe and sociable physical activity. This workshop encourages people to work together in teams, building trust and leadership skills, as well as communication and creative thinking.

Inspired by the upcoming screening of Polite Society at Blackpool Film Festival , you will learn all the most fun and gory techniques such as safe kicks to the groin, eye gouges, strangles and good old fashioned upper cuts. The session concludes with a talk from a trained stunt professional and an open Q&A covering body burns, car crashes, stair falls and the exciting world of stage combat and stunts.

Tickets: £5

What you need (on the day)

  • Please wear comfortable, practical and flexible clothing that allows you to move freely.
  • Stay hydrated!
  • Bring a water bottle/drink. You will be able to refill water bottles on site.

Who’s it for?

  • This session is aimed at women and non-binary people who have an interest in stunt acting for screen and stage.
  • The session is suitable for those aged 14 years and over.
  • The session will be led by 2 female and 1 male facilitator. All facilitators have current DBS checks.
  • The session is for those who are interested in stunt work and want to learn more about the profession. It will be of particular interest to those with a background in dance, circus and performing arts, but experience in this area isn’t necessary.

Why is it for women and non-binary people?
There is currently an under-representation of women and non-binary people working in action film. This workshop is a friendly introduction so that we can understand the work of women in this area and enable more performers to enter the industry.
