10:30am – 4pm, Friday 29 November 2024
Aunty Social, 28 Topping St, Blackpool, FY1 3AQ
Showing films to audiences is a real thrill, especially when you do it with a full house, creating really special memories in your community. But how can you reach people when you don’t have an existing connection, or they’re not traditionally engaged in the arts?
In this session, cinema worker Duncan Carson will look closely at different ways you can find audiences, speak to them so they’ll listen and keep them engaged long-term. We’ll look at:
- What do you need to do to try to gather people together for art events?
- How can you reach people in an increasingly oversaturated media environment?
- How do people decide what to do with their free time?
- How do you encourage people to consider new experiences?
- What do you need to do at events to make sure people come back?
This informal session has been designed for people hosting film events/screenings, but will also be useful for anyone producing arts events. It’s open to programmers, producers, and event organisers of all experience levels.
We will provide refreshments and a light vegan lunch.
Cost: Donation to Blackpool Film Festival.

Important physical access information
Please note that this session is upstairs. We are in the process of installing a lift, however due to unforeseen delays this is now due to be completed later in the year. The event space is up a single flight of 14 steps then you go around the corner and there are two small steps. Once you’re upstairs there’s a loo. You shouldn’t need to come downstairs for anything until the end of the activity.
If you have additional access needs (e.g. large print, BSL interpreter, level access) please let us know by emailing (using the contact organiser button/link) or sending us an SMS text/WhatsApp message on 07957 602790.
